How to Clean a CPAP Hose

There are several ways to clean a CPAP hose. It’s important to keep it as clean as possible to avoid odors and breathing difficulties. The solution you mix should be composed of warm water and white vinegar, roughly three parts water to two parts vinegar. Add a little soap or liquid dish detergent if necessary, and allow the hose to soak in the solution for at least thirty minutes. Once it’s clean, connect the hose to the CPAP machine or mask.

Vinegar is a good cleaning solution because it’s inexpensive, effective and easy to obtain. Vinegar kills mold, bacteria, and yeast. But it creates a potentially toxic environment. It’s not a substitute for soap and water, and it will have to soak a while to kill bacteria. It also won’t remove buildups and grease. But it is an excellent disinfectant.

If you’re worried about the bacteria and mold that can thrive in the humid environment of a CPAP machine, try using distilled water to wash the hoses. Vinegar is an effective disinfectant that can kill harmful germs and stop their growth. Sanitizers are a good choice to reduce the risk of catching a virus, but they’re not a permanent fix. Hand washing is a more natural way to clean your CPAP hose.

Aside from keeping your CPAP machine clean, it’s important to keep the CPAP equipment as clean as possible. The hose and mask can accumulate dirt and bacteria, which may lead to a cold or respiratory infection. Skin irritation, coughing, runny nose, and congestion are all symptoms of mold and other germs. If you have any of these symptoms, it’s best to make cleaning a daily ritual.
