If you spend a lot of time on social media, you will likely experience withdrawal symptoms when you decide to stop using it. Some compare the experience to quitting smoking. However, there are ways to cope with the loss of social media and overcome FOMO, or “fear of missing out” (FOMO).

You can eliminate social media notifications by uninstalling the app. The less frequent notifications you receive, the longer you can stay off social media. Logging out of social media apps can also help you stay away from it. While quitting social media can be a difficult process, there are many benefits to staying away from it. By focusing on your work instead of social media, you will be happier, less stressed, and more productive.

Quitting social media can help reduce feelings of stress, depression, and anxiety. Studies have shown that time spent on social media is directly related to how happy and stressed you are. Quitting social media helps you enjoy what you have and be thankful for it. When you stop using social media, your body naturally lowers cortisol levels, which helps you feel calm and focused. This may be the most effective way to overcome anxiety and depression and start living life more fully.

David Mohammadi, a fashion designer from San Francisco, recently took a two-week digital retreat. He did this to meet new people and acclimate to the New York fashion scene. He found his job unfulfilling, and wanted to move into a role in the fashion industry. After that, he stopped using social media and started living his life. He did not regret it, and found it easier to focus on his work instead.
